self portrait

I started the Love Yourself Campaign back in 2007. The campaign is a protest to unrealistic standards of beauty set by the media. Every minute of every day we are bombarded with images of what is considered "perfection". We compare ourselves and even grow resentful of the one and only body we were given. The Love Yourself Campaign is an on-going worldwide art project that promotes positive body image for women and men. We are all beautiful, so why not show the world and the media that we are comfortable with the way we are.

It is time for us to stand up to false images of beauty and become comfortable with and proud of our bodies!

Would you like to participate in The Love Yourself Campaign? Here's how!

Please send a photograph of you or somebody you know to loveyerbody@yahoo.com
Include your name and city/state with your e-mails please!

The phrase "start a revolution, stop hating your body" must be included somewhere in the photograph, whether it be on the body itself or not. The images should not be altered in any way being that it is a love your body campaign and should represent you for you! Be creative with it! And if you like, you may add a short statement to go along with the image you submit! I am looking for all shapes, sizes, colors, male or female!

Inappropriate or pornographic images will not be accepted. Plain and simple.

Spread the word! Start a Revolution, Stop hating your body!

Find us on Myspace
and
Facebook!

If you have created a photo for the campaign, feel free to upload it onto our Facebook group! The more submissions the better!

This is great, as well as the message.
But I can't feel this whole-heartedly, because
the girl in the photo has a flat stomach.
Many girls in society today (including me)
always feel overweight, and while this is great,
the girl has a perfect body.

Thank you so much for these inspiring words. ( I really needed this). Im a bit of a hypocrite, whenever my friends put themselves down for how they look, I always feverently tell them that they are beautiful and perfect the way they are ( b/c its true!!  ). But, for some reason, when it comes to myself its much more difficult for some reason. But with every passing day I try harder and harder, and I know that one day I will get there! I plan to joing the movement asap! Thank you for starting a revolution friend, and inspiring us to be comfertable in our own skin!

What so many people seem to be saying is that a fatter model would get the message across better because she's fat? As if every other woman in the world doesn't have something about her that makes her feel ugly? And that anyone who's happy automatically has to be skinny, rich, and you have the right to resent them? That skinny people automatically find it easier to love themselves?

I thought we were women here, I was under some misguided illusion that we had some solidarity and something in common.

Not all movie stars and models have eating disorders. Skinny people don't have it easier than fat people. Fat people don't have it any easier than skinny people. Hairy people don't have it any better than those with hair loss.

It's just as insulting for people to turn around and call you "an anorexic b*tch" as it is for people to call you "fatso", for every woman being bullied for being a "beanpole" there's another being bullied for being too big. No, there's no way out of it, thin and you're shunned for being "too skinny", fat and you're shunned for being "too big", average weight and you're shunned for being nonspecifically ugly.

I'm not going to mention my weight, because it's irrelevant in this argument. I have crooked teeth, I have a crooked nose. I have facial and body scars. I have raised moles, lumps on my head, stretch marks, blackheads, spots, veruccas, wobbly bits, bony bits, stretched bits, wrinkly bits, uneven bits. I'd never have the money to afford cosmetic surgery to sort any of it out, not even one part of it. But you know what? I can go out of the house without MAKEUP, or HAIR STYLERS, and I can catch a glimpse of myself in a shop window or a wing mirror and love every inch of my body.

That's what loving yourself is. It's realising that you are beautiful in mysterious and magical ways. It's remembering it when someone makes a comment about your weight, or your acne, or your hair colour. It's enjoying your body in all its glory while you have it, instead of being angry at it for not being how you or others think it ought to be.

I definitely agree that everybody, skinny or fat, should love their bodies. However, I disagree with this comment: "Skinny people don't have it easier than fat people." In general, anyone that is conventionally attractive, which includes being skinny as opposed to fat, is treated better. Obviously anyone can fall victim to body hate, but it's typically easier to love one's body when it is conventionally attractive due to all the outside positive reinforcement.

So I was bullied all the way through primary and high school for being ugly, you know what changed my mind? My school prom. When my mum went to pick up the photos, the photographer asked if I was hers and said I ought to have been a model.

Self love moment: I LOVE the little mole just above my underwear line on my tummy. It's a blemish and I love it.

This is a very true concept. I believe that once we stop hating ourselves we canstop hating others. The true reason most of us hate is because they have something we don't. They have a bigger bust, smaller gut, prettire face, they're taller, they're shorter. Anything that they have different we come to hate beause we think they're so different and loved so much more when really, they may even hate us for something we have. Or they just have the same amount of friends, they get the same amount of attention, we just think that they look prettier doing it. Love your body, for it loves you and by abusing it, you just make it uglier. Powerful picture=)

although this picture sends a good message. i don't think you have ever delt with a feeling of hatred for your own body. because you have most likely been blessed with one that has nothing wrong with it.

Like I have said to many other people who have accused me of "having nothing wrong with my body". Every person has insecurities about their own body, whether small or major. It is not fair for you to assume that I have never felt a hatred for my body because you do not know me and you do not know my body. It's easy for people to make assumptions about others when they don't know them.
This photograph was taken over 6 years ago as a form of self therapy for me because I have dealt with a deep hatred for my own body for many, many years. Now, at almost 25 years old I have started to make a dent in my own self healing.
If you or anyone else for that matter feel that I should not feel the way that I feel, or assume that I have never felt a feeling of hatred toward myself, you are surely mistaken. It doesn't matter what you look like, everybody has insecurities.

This photograph was for me.

Everybody has a different opinion of themselves. When I took this photograph almost 8 years ago I was struggling with my own issues and dealing with these issues through art was what started to help me. It was my therapy.

It's easy to make judgements that I should love myself because you think that I "have a good body". But in reality, we are all extremely judgmental of our bodies and this was where I started. I needed to. I took this photograph as it is and studied it for months. Finally coming to the realization that I am who I am and I need to begin to cherish and take care of it. Accept myself and love myself. This is what I try to inspire others to do. Accept, love, be healthy.

This photograph has nothing to do with how other people think I should feel.
It's all about how I feel about myself.

i disagree with the love yourself campaign

yes love yourself and what your given whether it be a big nose or big head or chinese eyes idk but if you are fat you should not love yourself at all!!

why love a fat body that can give you diabetes, heart attacks, strokes, and every other bad thing.

people look at skinniness as a sign of not just beauty or perfection but of healthyness

The love yourself campaign is about loving who you are as a person, being positive and being accepting of others. I do not promote eating disorders (whether it is not eating enough or eating too much). I do not promote unhealthy lifestyles. My campaign is about building confidence, doing what is right for yourself such as making healthy and smart decisions and helping other people who may be struggling.

Remember that it is not just people who may be obese that are unhealthy. Just because somebody is skinny does not make them healthy. I have actually read that a large majority of people who are skinny are extremely unhealthy because their BMI is really high and they don't even realize it and can also develop serious heath conditions.

This campaign is to educate people on loving who you are and doing what is right for yourself, build confidence in people and to put an end to ignorance. It's all about education.
